The 80's were a great decade, spent half decade in my teens and disposable income, I left home in 1984 to a town with a few 'venues' rather than having to get a train or bus hoping I'd catch last bus home or resort to hitching or sleeping on someone's sofa or floor, moving also gave me not 1 but 3 independent records stores. I moved to London around end of 1987 and live was even more technicolour.
